November 29, 2000 McLeodUSA to Add 100 new positions BY ROB STROUD Staff Writer CHARLESTON - McLeodUSA plans to add 100 sales positions at the Consolidated Market Response facility in Charleston as part of a company- wide expansion of sales efforts. Peter Barr, a local spokesman for the Illinois Consolidated Telephone Co./McLeodUSA, said the Consolidated Market Response facility at 700 W. Lincoln Ave. is ideal for meeting the space and staffing needs of expanding the company's sales efforts. A McLeodUSA press release stated Consolidated Market Response provides inbound and outbound teleservices, database management and fulfillment for customer service and sales applications. Its clients include state agencies, Fortune 500 companies and many others. Consolidated Market Response employees also distribute mailings to all McLeodUSA and shareowners, the release said. Barr said the Consolidated Market Response facility in Charleston evolved during the last few years from a business unit focused on sales to a telemarketing operation based largely on answering calls for outside clients. He said the new employees at the facility will focus on sales. The release stated the 100 new sales positions will be filled by July 2001 by moving employees from within the company and hiring new employees from the community. Barr said the ratio of current and new employees at the Consolidated Market Response facility for full-time and part-time employees has not been determined yet. "My best guess is it will involve hiring opportunities for McLeodUSA in Charleston," Barr said. Most of the Consolidated Market Response facility’s current employees are part time. The facility has a full-time management staff of 64, the release stated. Barr said the Consolidated Market Response facility on North Sixth St. in Mattoon will remain open.
