January 21,2001 Howell Asphalt, Howell Paving get Urban Improvement Award The Illinois Department of Transportation's Contractor of the Year program is designed to recognize exceptional quality in highway construction. This comprehensive program enables contracting firms of all sizes and specialties to receive acknowledgment for their outstanding performance. At the 96th annual convention and business meeting of the Associated General Contractors of Illinois held recently in Springfield, IDOT presented their awards for "Exceptional work" per formed during the 200l construction season. The joint venture of Howell Asphalt Company and Howell Paving, Inc. was selected for the Urban Improvement Award. Their nomination was for the pavement widening and resurfacing on US 45 from Illinois 37 to Jaycee Avenue in Effingham.
