October 23,2000 Wholesale distribution center under construction BY ROB STROUD Staff Writer CHARLESTON - A new wholesale distribution center and store for automotive parts and accessories is being built in the Coles Business Park.J.B. Esker & Sons Concrete Construction Inc. of Teutopolis is working on a building that it will sell to Dust & Sons Auto Supplies of Effingham. The building will be located near the northeast corner of the intersection of Illinois Route 16 and the Loxa Road. Chad Dust, president of Dust & Sons, said the business owns Coles County Auto Supplies, 2200 Lake Land Blvd. in Mattoon, and Charleston Automotive Supplies, 1003 Madison Ave. Dust said these two automotive supply stores will be consolidated into a Dust & Sons of Coles County in the business park. The new building will offer a retail area where customers will be able to walk in and purchase automotive supplies, Dust said. The building will also offer a wholesale distribution center that Dust & Sons will use to help cover its service area, which stretches from Champaign to Marion, he said. Dust & Sons has been in business since 1929, Dust said. The business recently started selling a lot of its automotive parts through the Internet, he said. Tom Ordner, an engineer for J.B. Esker & Sons, said the southwest corner of the new Dust & Sons building will contain a 3,600-square-foot retail and office area that will have concrete walls and a brick exterior. He said the remainder of the building will contain a12,000-square-foot concrete warehouse. A large concrete parking lot will serve the Dust & Sons building, Ordner said. Ordner said he would like to have the building completed by early spring, but this will depend on the weather. Jeanne Gustafson, executive director of Coles Together, said the Dust & Sons. building will be a nice addition to the high-quality buildings that are locating in the Coles Business Park and along the Route 16 corridor. "I think it will be an attractive facility," Gustafson said. Gustafson said Dust & Sons is part of a growing trend of businesses selling, their merchandise to a wider area with the help of the Internet. J.B. Esker & Sons purchased the property on which the Dust & Sons building will be located from Coles Together. Used with permission from Mid-Illinois
