Local groups honored by CCI
SPRINGFIELD - Three local Competitive
Communities Initiatives cities and organizations were honored for their
accomplishments recently at the CCI/Illinois Main Street Spring Conference.
Coles Together was recognized for achieving Stage 3, Prepared Community;
Charleston was recognized for achieving stage 5, Lead Community; and Mattoon was
recognized for achieving stage 3, Prepared Community.
The keynote speaker was Charleston Mayor Dan Cougill, who talked about how
his experiences as brigadier general in charge of communications on General H.
Norman Schwarzkopf’s staff during Desert Storm relate to his efforts as mayor
leading the "Charleston Tomorrow" CCI program.
